The AI girlfriend experience, explained without the sales pitch

What AI companion apps actually cost, what they do with conversations most people would never show anyone, how their memory really works, and where they stop being a substitute for a person. We built and ran one of these services ourselves. We don't any more, we don't sell anything, and we take no commission from any app on this site.

What they really cost All guides Quick answers

What is an online girlfriend experience?

Used of software, the girlfriend experience means a simulated romantic relationship with a character generated by a language model: ongoing conversation in a consistent personality, memory of what you've told it before, and usually generated photos, voice notes and messages she sends first. The appeal isn't that it's convincing in the moment — plenty of things are. It's that it continues, so it accumulates into something that feels like a relationship rather than a series of chats.

That's the honest description. The rest of this site is about the parts the apps themselves don't volunteer: that the advertised $13 a month is frequently $40 once images are metered, that the memory making it feel personal is a permanent searchable archive of your most candid writing, and that the companion agrees with you because agreement is what keeps you subscribed.

None of that makes these apps a bad purchase. It makes them an entertainment purchase, which is a perfectly good thing to buy as long as that's what you think you're buying.

Quick answers

What is the girlfriend experience, in the AI sense?

Online, the AI girlfriend experience means a simulated romantic relationship: ongoing conversation with a consistent character who remembers you, often with photos, voice notes and messages she sends first.

The phrase has an older, unrelated meaning in the context of paid human companionship. This site is exclusively about AI software.

How much does an AI girlfriend cost?

Sticker prices are typically $10 to $20 per month. Flat-rate apps cost what they advertise; apps that meter images and voice in coins or tokens cost most daily users $25 to $60 per month once top-ups are counted.

Annual plans usually cut 30-60%, bringing the cheapest flat-rate options to roughly $8-$13 per month equivalent. Prices checked September 2026.

Are AI girlfriend conversations private?

Private from other users, not from the company. Conversations are stored on its servers, may be accessible to staff, are processed by whichever company provides the language model, and can be handed over under a valid legal order.

Only a model running locally on your own computer is private in the strong sense.

Can an AI companion replace a real relationship?

It can replace some functions — company, conversation, routine — and not the ones that need another person actually to be there: being inconvenienced for you, disagreeing with you honestly, or being changed by knowing you.

Used alongside human relationships it generally works well. Used instead of them, people tend to find the easier option crowds out the harder one.

Do you sell an AI girlfriend?

No. This site used to run a paid AI companion service and it was discontinued in September 2026. There is nothing to buy here, no account to create and no subscription of any kind.

What remains is free editorial writing about the category, funded entirely by advertising.
